If you have seen any of the photos from the 2019 Golden Globes’ Red Carpet, then you’ve seen #fijiwatergirl. Her name is Kelleth Cuthbert and she was part of what seemed to be an elaborate publicity stunt to get Fiji brand water into just about every photo from last night’s ceremony. But according to the 30-something aspiring actress, “sometimes you just get trapped between a lot of different cameras.”
Well, apparently that’s not all it was because by the next morning she was twitter famous and had doubled her Instagram following. In an exclusive interview with Glamour Magazine, Cuthbert said she is confused and overwhelmed, finding it ironic that she is the subject of 2019’s first viral meme.
You might be looking at what is supposed to be a picture of actress Holly Taylor and her sprawling red gown, but there is Fiji water girl demanding a glance if not our undivided attention; successfully turning the Golden Globes into a giant Fiji product placement.
And if we think it was all a clumsy mistake, then how does one explain her eyes locking in on the camera like this? She’s not star struck – she’s a star in waiting!
Whether or not the brand was behind the most epic product placement in the last decade, one thing is for sure – they were very happy with the flurry of activity she created. In fact, they decided to decline comment and let the story take on a life of its own. Fiji did bask in the glow of it on their social feeds – and it will be interesting to see where the Fiji Water Girl turns up next. Some viewers are even planning to emulate the Fiji photobomb legend this coming Halloween.
We’re so glad everyone is talking about our water!
*senses ominous presence*
She’s right behind us, isn’t she? #FIJIwatergirl
