Drink something other than green beer for St. Patrick’s Day

I’ve sipped on enough green beer (read: two) to make the St. Patrick’s Day special pretty unappealing to me.

If you agree, check out the following St. Patrick’s Day themed cocktail — and a nonalcoholic smoothie — recipes.

Flipin’ Lucky

Recipe from Caledonia Spirits’ Barr Hill Gin

Note: A Flip is a cocktail that uses a whole egg.

  • 1½ ounces Tom Cat Gin
  • 3 ounces Irish Stout
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1/2 ounce raw honey syrup
  • An orange wheel (aka. orange sunshine)

1. Pour Irish Stout into the bottom of a cocktail glass.

2. In a shaker tin with ice, combine the Tom Cat Gin, egg, raw honey syrup and orange. Shake then double strain into the glass.

‘A hop skip and a jump to Tipperary’

Recipe from Caledonia Spirits’ Barr Hill Gin

  • 1½ ounce Barr Hill Gin
  • 3/4 ounce green chartreuse
  • 3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes orange bitters

1. Combine ingredients in a mixing glass with ice, stir, then strain into a cocktail glass.

2. Garnish with an orange twist.

Green Goodness Smoothie

By Juicy Juice

  • 2 kiwis
  • 1 peeled orange
  • 1 cup green grapes
  • 1 cup baby spinach
  • 1 cup apple Juicy Juice

1. Slice the kiwi in half and scoop out the fruit from the skin.

2. Add kiwi, peeled orange, grapes, baby spinach and apple juice to blender.

3. Blend until smooth (feel free to add more juice if the blend is too thick). Pour into a chilled glass; serve.

The Pot of Gold Cocktail

By Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company

  • 2 ounces Orange Mango Juice
  • 2 ounces Vodka
  • 1½ ounces Midori

1. Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice.

2. In a mixing glass or measuring cup, combine Orange Mango Juice, Vodka and Midori.

3. Stir well to combine. Pour into serving glass.

Sláinte Matcha

By Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company

  • Seedless Cucumber, 1-inch piece roughly chopped
  • 1½ ounces vodka
  • 4 ounces Matcha Lemonade
  • Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
  • Cucumber slices, garnish

1. Add cucumber and vodka to a cocktail shaker and muddle. Let the muddled mix sit for a few minutes to allow the cucumber flavor infuse the vodka.

2. Add ice and Matcha Lemonade to the shaker. Shake until chilled.

3. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass.

4. Top with a squeeze of lemon juice. Garnish with cucumber slices.

Vermont Coffee, a play on an Irish Coffee

Recipe from Caledonia Spirits’ Barr Hill Gin

  • 1½ ounce Tom Cat Gin
  • Strong black coffee
  • ½ ounce maple syrup

Maple/Angostura whipped cream (recipe below)

1. Combine ingredients in an Irish Coffee glass and top with the whipped cream.

For the Maple/Angostura Whipped Cream: Whip in a bowl or shake without ice in a shaker: 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, 1 tablespoon of maple syrup and 7 dashes of angostura bitters.
